I have worked for a range of companies over the past 20 years, from large multinationals with turnover in excess of $50bn to companies operating in local markets with sales of less than £100k. From human rights consultancy, to silicon IT, from innovative wave-power engineering, to business process outsourcing and even across into retail.
During this time, I have always sought to ask myself the question "how can I help these businesses grow?" It is the side of finance that I have always enjoyed the most, working with business leaders to drive innovation and change, and to grow the top-line (sales) while protecting the bottom line (profit, cash).
This has lead me to place where I want to deploy my skills more widely, where I can work with a number of SME businesses to help them achieve their growth ambitions, without them having to commit to the cost of a full-time CFO, or FD.
Introducing Strategy by Numbers. Broadly speaking, the work I do is related to financial data, such as costs, order values, invoicing, cash etc. However headcount numbers, sales opportunities, the volume of clients, dates since last contact clients etc are all non-financial data points that help articulate the story, challenges and opportunities within your business.
